Achille Perilli – Gli anni Sessanta – 13.12.18

Achille Perilli

Achille Perilli was born in Rome on 28 January 1927 and is one of the greatest protagonists of contemporary Italian painting, a crucial personality in Rome in the immediate post-war period.

In 1947, together with Ugo Attardi, Pietro Consagra, Piero Dorazio, Mino Guerrini, Antonio Sanfilippo and Giulio Turcato, Achille Perilli became a co-founder of the artistic avant-garde Forma 1, a true manifesto for an art of pure form, an art that was structured but not realistic, a mediation between the two opposing languages of abstractionism and realism until 1957, giving importance to form and sign in their essential meaning. The term Forma 1 originated from the title of an extraordinary magazine called ‘Forma’. The magazine only had one issue in March 1947, but left an indelible mark on Roman culture and art.
